Have you ever watched as cancer ate the body and soul of a loved one? Have you ever felt lost and desperate?
So I sat in Starbucks this past weekend scanning a newspaper I scavenged off a table. I read out the standings of the St. Jude’s Classic Golf tournament to my friend who slurped coffee.
“I’m really pulling for Brian Gay to come out ahead,” I exclaimed.
“I see,” she said.
“Notah Begay too, I think, but I’m not sure.”
“Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” she parried.
“I really love Boo Weekly.”
“I thought you preferred “Shag” Daly.”
“No, I think only John’s estranged wife calls him by that name.”
“What about Vance Veazy?” She whispered through pursed lips.
“I think he’s sleazy.”
“I like Tag Ridings,” she whinnied.
“I think he’s paired with Kevin Stradler …”
“Oh?”
“No, not James “The Big” Oh.”
“So tell me once and for all? Who is your favoritest player?” I queried her.
“I guess I have to go with Dickey Pride. Or maybe Frank Lickliter.”
The exchange got me to thinking just how lucky I was and especially how precious life can be. I remembered years earlier when my then father-in-law suffered with cancer. I saw it ravage his body and eventually take his life. I vowed to never take good health for granted and to make every laugh count!
So Saint Jude is the patron saint of lost or desperate causes. Have you ever called upon him?
Who is your favoritist (sexy) golfer?
