Innuendo’ed musings on life, the universe and nothing in particular

Heavy Petting

June 11th, 2009 | Filed under: Sexy Blog Thursday

If you came here expecting a treatise on pre-coital gropings a possibly a “how-to-blog” on preprocreational activities, I am sorry to disappoint.

No, today’s post is all about the sadness and blue mood that is stimulated by the loss of a beloved pet. Animals flit into our lives, like love itself, almost upon accident – popping up in a particular place at a specific moment in time. They take up space in our homes and in our hearts. We care for them and they become one of the family.

Then, invariably, they grow old and sick. Their years are measured differently than ours. They race through time while we saunter.
Sometimes, at their sunset, they lose a step or two and fall prey to wild animals or the errant car. Other times they simply fall apart, like we humans do at the end of our days, and are “put down,” which is a polite way of saying youthanized (sent back to their pre-birth state).

We mourn their passing. We grieve the happy memories. And then we walk on.

So do you enjoy all of the various activities that lead up to the main event?
Have you ever lost a lovable pet or had one put down?

  2. I have lost dogs and cats. My childhood dog, Archie, whom I had since I was six or seven, died when I was a Senior. As an adult, one dead cat, two left behind cats (with Ex), and one dead goldfish named Orange. He was my son’s and passed on about 19 years ago. My son’s first loss.

    Take care,

    Dan
